Selling a vehicle on a public road

Vehicles placed on the public highway for sale can become a nuisance to local residents and other road users.

It's an offence for a business to leave two or more cars for sale on the road within 500 metres of each other. This does not apply to private individuals selling their own car.

If you'd like to let us know about a business selling vehicles on a public road please complete the form below.

We will ask you for:

  • the vehicle registration number

  • vehicle type, make, model and colour

  • location of the vehicle

  • seller information (optional)

What happens next

We'll investigate the vehicle and contact you within five working days.
